Despite professional development dominated by leadership, the fire service continues to face a shortage of authentic leaders.  With skill, merit, and desire slowly disappearing from the prerequisites for advancement, this 2 hour class addresses the consequences of excluding followership from the equation.  Instead of shaming those willing to follow, we will build on the fact we are unfit to lead until we learn how to be led ourselves.  We will address the stigma around terms like management, supervision, and authority, learning their role in building teams, not division.  Follow the Leader seeks to bring back the natural emergence of leadership to the doers of our organizations by making followership the first step in the journey of becoming a successful leader.

This class is for everyone on the roster!  All ranks, abilities, and experience levels will benefit from removing the stigma between being labeled as a follower and instead learn the importance of following in teamwork, leadership, and professional development.  This class addresses some of the most overlooked flaws in fire service's overdose of leadership and prepare students for the most important aspect of our operations; how to be led!
